The Space Shuttle "Discovery" flies over Washington, DC

One monument approaches another

The last time we saw a plane approach a tall building, it ended in unspeakable disaster.  What a difference a decade makes! Today, Washington, DC was treated to the rare view of the space shuttle, Discovery, as it made its final voyage from Cape Canaveral (FL) to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum near Dulles Airport in Virginia. I had totally forgotten about the event until I walked out of a meeting, heard the low grumble of the 747 and then was rewarded with the beautiful sight of man’s ultimate creativity–the ability to take flight, explore and make the unimagined real.
